Crypto Kidnapping in Soho: Investor Accused of Brutal Attack

Wow, so get this crazy story out of New York. Apparently, a grand jury just charged this guy, John Woeltz, who's 37 and into crypto. They say he kidnapped his business partner right in fancy Soho and held him for like, three whole weeks!
Prosecutors are saying it was pretty wild. They claim Woeltz and another guy, William Duplessie, shocked the partner with electric wires. Can you even imagine? And get this, they even dangled him over a staircase! Why? To try and get his Bitcoin password, of course. Seriously messed up, right?
Woeltz got picked up by the cops on May 23rd. According to the court stuff, the guy who was allegedly kidnapped told the police that back on May 6th, Woeltz and Duplessie took his phone and passport and were demanding he give them his password so they could snag his cryptocurrency. I mean, that's just low.
Neither Woeltz nor Duplessie, who's 33, have said if they're guilty or not yet. Their lawyers aren't talking either. Local news has been calling Woeltz a crypto investor and saying the person they allegedly kidnapped is Italian.
Turns out, the New York Times reported that both of them had connections to some crypto hedge fund in the city. They got that info from a police report that a law enforcement person talked about. So, when the guy wouldn't give up his password, Woeltz and Duplessie supposedly started beating him up badly. Like, for weeks until he finally got away.
They allegedly tied his wrists, hit him in the head with a gun (yikes!), and even said they'd kill his family. That's just terrifying. Duplessie was arrested just the other day, on Tuesday, and has a court date on Friday. Both guys have been ordered to stay locked up by the judges. Woeltz is supposed to be in court on June 11th to get formally charged. Wild story, huh?
