Crypto Kidnapping Shocks Manhattan

Crypto Kidnapping Shocks Manhattan

Okay, so get this wild story outta Manhattan. Apparently, like, a 37-year-old crypto guy is in some serious trouble. A grand jury just said he did some really messed up stuff to a business partner in Soho. Seriously, they're saying he kidnapped this dude for like, three whole weeks!

And it gets crazier. Prosecutors are saying he used electric wires on the guy and even dangled him over a staircase. All just to try and get his hands on the Bitcoin password. Can you even imagine?

This guy, John Woeltz, got picked up by the cops back on May 23rd, according to court papers. So, there's this complaint filed in court where an unnamed guy told the police that Woeltz and another fella, William Duplessie, took his phone and passport on May 6th. They wanted his password so they could swipe his cryptocurrency.

Neither Woeltz nor Duplessie, who's 33, has said if they're guilty or not yet. Their lawyers said they wouldn't talk about it. Local news has been calling Woeltz a crypto investor, and they're saying the guy who was allegedly victimized is Italian. Word on the street, like the New York Times reported based on a police report, is that both of them had connections to a crypto hedge fund in New York.

When the guy wouldn't give up his password, Woeltz and Duplessie supposedly started just beating him up like crazy for weeks until he somehow got away. They tied his wrists, hit him in the head with a gun, and even threatened his family. Yikes! Duplessie got arrested recently, on Tuesday, and he's got a court date coming up Friday for a preliminary hearing. Judges have said both of them gotta stay locked up. Woeltz is supposed to be in court to enter his plea on June 11th. Pretty wild, right?
