Investment Firm Might Sell Apryse, a Company Behind Your Favorite App Document Features

Okay, so get this. Apparently, the folks over at Thoma Bravo, this big investment firm, are thinking about selling off Apryse. You know, that company that does all that cool stuff with documents in apps? Like making, editing, and changing digital docs and putting those features into other apps? Yeah, that one.

Sources are saying that Thoma Bravo is talking to Lazard, which is an investment bank, to figure out a sale. It sounds like some other private equity companies are already interested. Thoma Bravo might even keep a piece of the company, like a minority stake, if a deal happens. But hey, nothing's official yet, so who knows what will actually go down. These folks are keeping things on the down low, which is why they didn't want their names used.

I heard that Apryse makes over $100 million a year in profit before all the fancy accounting stuff, and they're growing really fast, like more than 20% each year! Because it's doing so well, people think the company could be worth a lot, maybe even 30 times its yearly profit or more. Can you even imagine?

Apryse used to be called PDFTron way back in 1998. Thoma Bravo bought them in 2021, and then they changed the name to Apryse a couple of years ago. Some of the original investors are still involved too. Since Thoma Bravo took over, Apryse has bought nine other companies to get bigger and better and reach more people around the world. They just bought a company called TallComponents, which is based in the Netherlands, and last year they bought an AI software company called Lead Technologies. They're really expanding!

It's kinda exciting to see what happens with a company like this, isn't it? With all that growth and those acquisitions, makes you wonder who might snap them up and what that would mean for the document tech world. Like, if another company bought them, how would that change things for developers using their tools? And would we even see new cool features in our apps?
