Microsoft's Russian Subsidiary Eyes Bankruptcy

Microsoft's Russian Subsidiary Eyes Bankruptcy

So, guess what? One of Microsoft's companies in Russia is planning to go bankrupt. Yeah, you heard that right. Someone posted this info on a public record thingy on Friday. Microsoft didn't say anything right away when someone emailed them to ask about it.

This whole thing comes after Russian President Putin said earlier this week that foreign services like Microsoft and Zoom should kinda be limited in Russia. He wants Russian companies to take over instead. Microsoft actually kept offering important services in Russia even after Russia invaded Ukraine back in February 2022. But then, in June 2022, they said they were cutting back a lot because the economy was changing and it was hitting their business there. Before that, right after the invasion, the big US tech company had already taken the Russian government-owned media apps off its app store and stopped showing ads from Russian government-sponsored media.

That note that popped up on the public record on Friday basically said that Microsoft Rus LLC is planning to declare bankruptcy. Some news agency also reported that Microsoft has three other companies in Russia. They're called Microsoft Development Centre Rus, Microsoft Mobile Rus, and Microsoft Payments Rus. It's not totally clear yet how those other companies might be affected by this.

Remember how Google's company in Russia filed for bankruptcy back in 2022? They said it got impossible to keep their office running in Russia, like paying their employees and suppliers, because the Russian authorities took their bank account. It makes you wonder what's really going on, you know?
