Microsoft's Wild AI Dreams: Agents Talking to Each Other!
So, get this, Microsoft is thinking way ahead about AI. Like, super future stuff. Their main tech guy, Kevin Scott, was just chatting about how they imagine a world where AI agents from one company can actually work together with ones from totally different companies. Pretty cool, right?
He spilled the beans right before their big Build conference happening in Seattle on May 19th. Everyone's expecting Microsoft to show off the newest tools for folks building these AI systems there.
Chatting from their headquarters in Redmond, Kevin told everyone that Microsoft is really focusing on getting everyone in the tech world to agree on some rules so these different AI agents can actually team up. Think of agents as these smart computer programs that can do specific jobs on their own, like fixing a little bug in some software. Neat!
He mentioned that Microsoft is really pushing for something called Model Context Protocol, or MCP. This is an open-source thing that Google-backed Anthropic came up with. Kevin thinks MCP could totally create something like an "agentic web." He compared it to how those hypertext protocols helped the internet blow up back in the 90s. Seriously, like, your imagination gets to decide what this agentic web becomes, not just a few big companies who saw the problems first, you know?
Kevin also talked about how Microsoft is trying to make these AI agents remember things better. He said right now, most of what they're building feels like, well, just one-off transactions. It's like they forget what you just told them! But making an AI agent's memory better costs a bunch of money because it needs way more computer power. So, Microsoft is trying this new idea called structured retrieval augmentation. Basically, the agent takes little bits from each part of a conversation with you and makes a kind of map of what you talked about. It's kind of like how your own brain works, right? You don't just try to remember everything all at once every time you need to solve something.
Building cool stuff like this takes some serious skill. If you're looking for help with AI development or other tech projects, have you ever checked out Fiverr? You can find freelancers for almost anything there!
